Auto-Empty vs Auto-Refill: What Each Base Feature Does
Marketing often bundles dock features together, but auto-empty and auto-refill solve two different chores. Here is what each does and what stays manual.

Auto-empty moves dry debris from the robot's bin into a dock bag. Auto-refill tops up the robot's mop water tank from a dock reservoir. A combo robot with only one still leaves you doing half the chores.

What is documented
Manufacturers list these features differently. In our dock automation matrix, auto-refill is recorded as stated for the Roborock Saros 10R, Roborock Qrevo Edge 3 Pro, ECOVACS DEEBOT X2 Omni and Roomba Combo j9+, and shown as "Not stated" for other models where the listing does not say. "Not stated" is not the same as "absent".
Which do you need?
- Vacuum only: auto-empty is the one that matters.
- Mopping: check refill, washing and drying too.
- Small home: a manual bin may be enough; see do you need a self-emptying vacuum?
