Hot Water Mop Washing Explained
Some premium docks wash mop pads with heated water instead of room-temperature water. Here is what that means and what manufacturers actually state.
Quick answer
Hot-water washing uses heated water in the dock's pad-wash cycle. Manufacturers state a temperature on some models, but not all. It should help with grease and odour, but pads and trays still need periodic manual care.
Why temperature matters
Hot water is generally better than cold at breaking down oils and the residue that causes musty pads, the same reason dishwashers and washing machines use heated water for tougher loads. It is an explanation of the principle, not a measured result for any particular dock.
What manufacturers state
Our dock automation matrix records the figures makers publish: 176°F for the Roborock Saros 10R, a listing-cited 212°F mop self-clean figure for the Roborock Qrevo Edge 3 Pro, and 167°F for the Narwal Freo Z Ultra. Other models do not state a temperature in the listings we checked, and the eufy X10 Pro Omni does not list hot-water washing. These are manufacturer figures we did not measure.
What it changes day to day
- Pads may come out cleaner and smell less between runs.
- It matters most where the dock sits in an enclosed space.
- It is a feature, not a guarantee: results depend on soil and use.
What still needs manual care
Clean the wash tray, empty the dirty-water tank and give pads an occasional hand wash; see mop pad care. Follow your manual for descaling and detergent.
