Robot Vacuum Security Camera Features Explained
Some robot vacuums add home-monitoring features on top of their navigation cameras. Here is what those features usually mean, and what to do about privacy.
Quick answer
Live view, remote drive, pet search and video calls let you look around from the app, but a robot vacuum is not a fixed, always-on security camera. Check whether the feature can be turned off and protect the account with a strong password.
What the features usually are
- Live view: a real-time camera feed while you drive the robot.
- Remote drive: steering the robot around the home from the app.
- Pet search or check-in: looking for a pet in the home.
- Two-way audio or video calls on some models.
What manufacturers list
Our specification database records what makers state: an RGB camera with two-way video and pet search on the Roborock Saros 10R, and an RGB camera with video calls on the Roborock Qrevo Edge 3 Pro. Other models list navigation cameras only. This is a feature list, not an assessment of how data is handled.
How it differs from a dedicated camera
A robot sees only what is in its low field of view while it moves, has no continuous coverage, and depends on battery and Wi-Fi. Treat it as a supplementary check-in tool, not a replacement for a security camera.
Privacy and account security
- Check whether live view or remote drive can be disabled.
- Use a strong, unique password and two-factor authentication where offered.
- Review who has shared access.
