Maintenance

Cleaning the Self-Empty Base

A self-empty base still needs its own upkeep beyond swapping the collection bag. A regular check keeps the empty cycle quiet and reliable.

Quick answer

Replace the bag by the indicator or your manual's interval, clean or replace the base filter, and wipe the inlet, seal and contacts. Do it monthly, or sooner if the empty cycle sounds weak or fails.

Replace the bag

Follow the fullness indicator in the app or on the base rather than guessing. An overfull bag can cause a failed empty cycle. Bag intervals are stated by each maker; our dock automation matrix lists those we could verify (for example a stated 60-day interval on some models and 120 days on the Narwal Freo Z Ultra).

Base filter

Many bases have a filter separate from the robot's. Tap it out or replace it as your manual says. A clogged filter weakens suction during the empty cycle.

Inlet, seal and contacts

  • Wipe around the inlet where the robot bin connects.
  • Check the rubber seal for debris or damage.
  • Clear dust from the charging contacts.
  • Look for any blockage in the visible dust path.

A monthly routine

  • Replace the bag if the indicator or interval says so.
  • Clean the base filter.
  • Wipe the inlet and seal.
  • Run a test empty cycle.

If it stops emptying

See self-empty base not emptying for a step-by-step check, and setup if you have just installed one.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reuse a bag?

Most bags are single-use. Check your manual.

How do I know the base filter needs cleaning?

Weaker emptying, more dust around the inlet or a stale smell are common signs.

Is the base washable?

Generally no. Wipe dry unless your manual says otherwise.
