Troubleshooting
Robot Vacuum Map Lost or Wrong: What to Check
A missing or distorted map is usually caused by a moved dock, a changed layout, an interrupted run or an update, not by a broken robot. Check these in order before rebuilding the map, because a rebuild can erase zones and room names.
Quick answer
Confirm the robot is on its dock and on the right floor, open interior doors, restart it and check the app for a saved-map option. Only re-map when the layout is badly wrong, and note your zones and room names first.
1. Check the dock and the floor
The map is anchored to the dock. If the dock moved, or the robot is on a different level than the map it loaded, the layout can appear wrong or missing; see multi-floor mapping and dock placement.
2. Was the run interrupted?
Lifting the robot, closing doors mid-run or a power cut can leave a partial or skewed map. Let a full run finish without moving the robot; see mapping setup.
3. Has the layout changed?
Large furniture moves, a new rug or a renovation can confuse localisation. A run from the dock often recovers it; if not, a re-map may be needed.
4. Sensors and lighting
Dirty LiDAR windows or cameras, and very dark rooms for camera-based robots, degrade mapping; see cleaning sensors and LiDAR vs camera.
5. Fix rooms instead of re-mapping
If rooms are merged or split, most apps let you edit boundaries; see room naming and editing. This keeps zones and schedules intact.
6. Updates and account
A firmware or app update can change map handling, and maps stored in the manufacturer's cloud depend on the account being signed in; see cloud maps and data privacy. Check for updates and confirm you are signed in to the right account.
Before you re-map
- Screenshot your rooms, zones and schedules.
- Check your manual for whether a re-map deletes them.
- Place the dock permanently first.
- Run one uninterrupted mapping pass.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my saved map disappear?
Common causes are a factory reset, removing the robot from the app, a different account or an update. Check the app and account first.
Can I restore an old map?
Some apps keep map backups. Check your app's map or history settings.
Does a bad map mean a faulty robot?
Usually not. Layout changes, interruptions and dirty sensors are more common causes.
